Student Success Program

Are you an international student who has had to delay starting at UQ to Semester 2 this year because of impacts associated with COVID-19 travel restrictions?

The University of Queensland is now offering you the opportunity to participate in a free of charge UQ exclusive preparatory program to help set you up for your future academic career on campus.

UQ has developed two streams, one focused on academic success and settling in to UQ life for commencing (new) international undergraduate and postgraduate students, and one focused on developing your employability capabilities for returning international students. Read on to find out more about these two bespoke programs for UQ students.

Program details

Dates: 8 July - 31 July 2020
Commitment: 25 hours per week on average
Eligibility: New international students only

This program has been specifically designed for UQ's commencing (new) international undergraduate and postgraduate students, and is focused on getting you ready for university life.

The program will prepare you for university study in Australia, providing you with opportunities to settle into campus and make meaningful connections.

Help and assistance with taking care of all the essentials for settling into Brisbane and Australia - healthcare registration, opening a bank account, even setting up your accommodation.
UQ Virtual Village
Make friends with other new students online in the classroom as well as through UQ's Virtual Village, an online community framed around your interests and hobbies. The way you get involved is up to you!

Skill Development

Opportunities to build skills and make connections to enhance your UQLife.

Accelerated engagement with UQ's Employability Award. Your involvement in the program counts directly towards the requirements of the Employability Award.

Eligibility: Returning students only

Beginning on 13 July 2020, this program has been specifically designed for UQ's returning international undergraduate and postgraduate students and is focused on enhancing your employment prospects.

The program aims to help prepare you for the world of work, giving you opportunities to develop capabilities that will give you a head start in your future career and the skills you need to communicate your value. This program also provides a unique opportunity to engage in a virtual intenship with a direct impact on your employability.

Employability is an experiential learning process that develops your skills, capabilities and personal attributes in a way that will empower you to perform effectively in the workplace, to generate and make the most of opportunities, and create positive social and economic impact.
