What we are looking for:
We are looking to partner with students and staff who can help us celebrate the theme 'Celebrate, Innovate, Illuminate' from 18-31 October. Events, projects and ideas should all benefit UQ students and the wider UQ community all while celebrating jacaranda season. UQLife have previously partnered with PhD students and a variety of student groups from Information Technology, Interactive Design, School of Music, Architecture and Electrical Engineering to name a few.
Examples of partnerships we are looking for:
- Celebration events for students
- Innovative student projects that explore and challenge subjects such as politics, sustainability and culture
- Exhibits and digital structures and designs that explore light, sound, art, music, architecture, interactive design and information technology
- Panel discussions, talks and networking opportunities
- Other exciting projects happening at UQ we don't yet know about!
If you want to discuss your idea in detail, we are happy to set up a meeting and explore this further with you. Fill in the expression of interest above or email uqlife@uq.edu.au
Some examples of past student projects are listed below.
1. BLOOM Illuminate - PHD student Taana Rose curated the sound production for the 2020 BLOOM Festival light show. Her dedication and brilliance brought the festival to another level in 2020 drawing crowds from all over Brisbane to sit and watch the show under the blooming Jacarandas. 2. IxD Interactive installations - IT and interactive design students explored the theme 'Exploring Human Connection in a no-touch/own touch world' in 2020, showcasing pop-up interactions the UQ community could engage in. Discover 2020 IxD interactive installations
3. Undulate, E-Motion & Floral Symphony Interactive Installations - These three installations explored the interdisciplinary creation of interactive installations that engage an audience through light, sound and physical form. Students from the School of Music, Architecture, and Information Technology & Electrical Engineering, worked in cross-disciplinary collectives to harness their creative skills from different disciplinary perspectives. Taking inspiration from themes relating to the natural environment, sustainability and imagination to create a series of multimedia installations. Discover the 2019 interactive installations
4. Soundscape - A joint project between ITEE and the University of Queensland Music Department, Soundscape was a New Digital Musical Instrument that allowed the digital musician to manipulate and improvise music sources while allowing them to communicate expression through sound and visuals. The digital musicians manipulate the music by their gestures of pressing, swiping and poking four stretch fabric panels, the gestures loosely mimicking the actions the musicians use on the iPad. 4. UQ Car Racing launch - This event celebrates the great achievements of the UQ Racing Team, unveiling the 2020 Electric Vehicle.
