Here are 10 ways you can give back to your community this winter through volunteering!
We all know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you do something nice for someone else in the community, but did you know there are so many other benefits of volunteering?
As a Uni student, it’s only natural to be thinking about ways to build your career and future. Volunteering can enhance your employability, as well as create new connections and friendships along the way. Studies have also shown volunteering can make us healthier, happier and can even improve self-esteem and our professional and inter-personal skills!
The best thing about volunteering is that you can pick and choose as many or as little opportunities as you like, to suit your interests. Whether it’s helping out in a community garden, assisting with an event on campus at UQ or even helping cook at a community kitchen, there really is a volunteer opportunity to suit everyone!
As a starting point, we’ve compiled the below list of 10 Ways You Can Give back to your Community this Winter through volunteering. Don’t forget to join our UQ Get Involved program to be informed of volunteering, mentoring and student representation opportunities you can participate in throughout the year!

#SeatoSource is an initiative powered by Conservation Volunteers Australia, supporting you to take action on one of the world’s most solvable environmental issues - ocean litter.
You’ll be assisting the team to do a 2-3 hour blitz along Pandanus Beach as well as the Wynnum Foreshore, recording what we cleared in the Global Plastic Pollution Project powered by CSIRO. Help us have an impact this June and drive toward local responses to stop litter at its source.
