Winter in Queensland 2022 - Volunteering opportunities

Here are 10 ways you can give back to your community this winter through volunteering!

We all know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you do something nice for someone else in the community, but did you know there are so many other benefits of volunteering?

As a Uni student, it’s only natural to be thinking about ways to build your career and future. Volunteering can enhance your employability, as well as create new connections and friendships along the way. Studies have also shown volunteering can make us healthier, happier and can even improve self-esteem and our professional and inter-personal skills!

The best thing about volunteering is that you can pick and choose as many or as little opportunities as you like, to suit your interests. Whether it’s helping out in a community garden, assisting with an event on campus at UQ or even helping cook at a community kitchen, there really is a volunteer opportunity to suit everyone!

As a starting point, we’ve compiled the below list of 10 Ways You Can Give back to your Community this Winter through volunteering. Don’t forget to join our UQ Get Involved program to be informed of volunteering, mentoring and student representation opportunities you can participate in throughout the year!

10 ways to give back

10. Volunteer with Uniting Care and make a difference in your community

Our communities are stronger thanks to the generosity of people who put their hand up to help. Whether it's visiting an older person for a cuppa, going on holiday with a person with disability, sorting books at the Lifeline Bookfest or serving in a Lifeline Shop, volunteering brings people together. Uniting Care cherishes the skills and unique perspective of each of their volunteers, and warmly welcome volunteers with all types of abilities, experience and availability. Maybe you would like to volunteer with your company, school, community group or even virtually as a remote e-volunteer.

Uniting Care has volunteering opportunities available in our hospitals, with Lifeline, BlueCare, at their Bookfests and in their Corporate offices.

How to register: Sign up to volunteer via Uniting Care's website.
