Queensland Mental Health Week (8 — 16 October 2025) is an annual awareness week that shines a spotlight on mental health and wellbeing. This year, The University of Queensland will be celebrating Queensland Mental Health Week with a week full of activities and workshops to support and promote the mental health and wellbeing of the UQ Community. 

Make sure to take time for your mental health and join us for a wide range of events wherever you are to spark conversations, build connections and learn something new for the improved mental health of us as not only individuals but a community. Check out the program below to see the full range of events on for QMWH!

What's on

Art of Belonging Student Art Competition

At UQ, we celebrate the diverse identities and experiences that make up our community. Art of Belonging invites all UQ students to creatively express what belonging means to them and how we can foster a more inclusive, welcoming environment for all. Visit  Student Central (Prentice Building (42), St Lucia) to see the see the full gallery of over 40 incredible submissions in person or download the Art of Belonging Digital Gallery (85.0MB).

UQ webinar: Supporting yourself & others when grieving

Grief and loss affect us all – but knowing how to support ourselves and others can make a real difference.

Join the UQ Webinar: Supporting yourself and others when grieving  tomorrow to learn practical ways to:

This Queensland Mental Health Week, we are partnering with Stem Cell Donors Australia for Swab & Sizzle: Care, Connect & Check-In. Join us for a free sausage sizzle barbeque with free sweet treats as well as self-care resources and activities, like chair yoga.

Stem Cell Donors Australia will also be providing cheek swabs for students interested in joining the Stem Cell registry. Stem cell donation is a safe and simple process that can potentially cure life-threatening diseases. It’s quick, painless and could help save a life! We're encouraging students to Register for Rowan, a second-year UQ Physiotherapy student and UQ Rugby trainer who is urgently seeking a stem cell donor to help in his fight against blood cancer.

Brought to you as part of our collaboration with UQ Cyber Security for their Cyber Security Awareness Month, these 15 minutes Breathwork Mindfulness Sessions are open to students and staff. Reset and refresh with mindfulness exercises in the beautiful nature of the UQ Lakes.

Gatton students are invited to take some time and come get their hands dirty with the a Community Garden Workshop. Learn more about the Community Gardens and about how you can grow your own plants and food. We'll also have assorted activities across campus held in collaboration with the UQ Gatton Pod. Mindfulness Inside and Out: In-Person Session

Mindfulness is an essential skill that research, experts, and world leaders have recognized as significant to promote health, resilience, and to enhance performance. Join a trained UQ counsellor and meditator for a series of 10 to 20 minute guided mindfulness practices followed by discussion to support the development of your confidence in your personal mindfulness practice.

Mindfulness Inside and Out: Walking Meditations

Take 15 minutes for yourself and prioritise your mental health while enjoying the beauty and tranquility of our UQ campuses. The Mindlfulness In and Out Walking Meditation activity was created by UQ Counselling as part of their Wellbeing Programs, a variety of therapeutic groups tailored to specific mental health needs. Select the audio guide for your specific campus from the options below, and take some time for yourself, practice mindfulness and destress while at university.

Wellbeing Programs

Looking for an effective stand-alone alternative to individual counselling or additional resourses to support your mental health? 

UQ Counselling offers eleven Wellbeing Programs, each facilitated by trained counsellors and targeted to specific issues like performance anxiety, body image, grief and more. Meet new people, strenghten your sense of community and support and find realistic strategies to overcome challenges.
