Have you ever worried about your privacy and the cost of accessing reproductive health services in Australia?

Have you ever worried about your privacy and the cost of accessing reproductive health services in Australia?

In Australia, you have Healthcare rights which ensure all patients receive safe, high-quality care. These rights include the right to privacy. This means you have a right to have your personal privacy respected — information about you and your health must be kept secure and confidential. Your personal health information cannot be shared without you permission.

This includes any information provided to your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). It is important to protect your privacy and not share any of your OSHC policy account details, including log in and passwords with anyone. The cost to access health care will depend on you OSHC policy. Basic OSHC covers visits to the doctor, some hospital treatment, limited pharmaceuticals, ambulance cover, some prosthetic devices and access to private hospitals and day surgeries.

Within the Australian Healthcare System, your first point-of-contact is often a General Practitioner (GP)/Doctor or Allied Health Practitioners, under primary care.

Most reproductive health services can be provided by a GP/Doctor, Family Planning Clinic or Sexual Health Clinic. Each GP/doctor or service has different fees. Specialised reproductive health care is provided in a hospital (public or private) setting. The cost involved will depend on your OSHC policy. In most cases, OSHC will cover a good proportion of the costs.

It is best to contact your OSHC provider for further information. If you are a UQ Student you can visit a GP/Doctor at a UQ Health Clinic for no cost using your Allianz Care OSHC. In addition, most OSHC providers have a network of direct-billing GPs allowing for appointments with no out-of-pocket cost. At UQ, you can visit Student Central (Building 42) to chat with a staff from Allianz Care Australia during Monday to Friday (9am to 3pm). Visit Allianz OSHC Campus locations and times here for more details.
